BELMONT, N.C. – Davis McBee tallied his team-leading fourth goal of the season as the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 draw with Converse Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. It was the second meeting of the season between the two Northwest Division rivals.
McBee scored off a free kick in the 16th minute before Converse pulled even in the second half on a penalty kick. It is the first time since the season opener against USC Aiken that The Abbey has had a draw.
With the result, Belmont Abbey is now 8-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in Conference Carolinas play. on the season. Converse is now 7-4-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders took two shots early in the match.
- McBee converted on a free kick from just outside the box in the 16th minute after a Converse foul to put the Crusaders ahead.
- The two teams combined for 10 shots in the first 45 minutes with just one on goal.
- Gabriel Verona pulled the Valkyries even with his penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute.
- The Crusaders held a 12-11 advantage but the Valkyries had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- McBee, Alex Ljusberg and Pa Njie took the three shots on target for The Abbey.
- Will Whitman made five saves on the evening.
