MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit with a four-goal surge in the second half to defeat Mount Olive 4-2 Saturday night at Amon Field.
All four goals in the second half came from four different scorers over the span of 18:21 of play to lift the Crusaders to their third straight win and sixth in the last seven contests.
Belmont Abbey is now 8-4-1 overall and 6-2 in Conference Carolinas play while Mount Olive is 2-7-3 overall and 2-5-2 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brett Ramsey took the first shot of the match 15 minutes in for the Crusaders.
- Mount Olive took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute with a Christen Lugo-Elibox goal.
- The Trojans added a second goal in the 63rd minute from Greg Boko.
- Belmont Abbey pulled even quickly in a span of two minutes starting with a goal from Felipe Baptista.
- Brett Ramsey scored off another assist from Davis McBee in the 68th minute.
- Facing his former team, Walter Gomez put the Crusaders ahead in the 75th minute by converting a penalty kick.
- Dorian Samo helped The Abbey put the match away with his goal with six minutes remaining in the match. Pa Njie was credited with the assist.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Mount Olive 11-7 overall and 6-5 on goal.
- Will Whitman made two saves in goal for the Crusaders with Trent McConnaughey making a save in the final nine minutes.
