MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey field hockey team went on the road for its second matchup of the season with No. 5 Mount Olive Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Complex.
The Crusaders attempted to mount a fourth-quarter comeback but it was the Trojans who came away with the 1-0 victory.
Belmont Abbey is now 4-8 overall and 4-6 in the South Atlantic Conference. Mount Olive is now 12-1 overall and is 11-0 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders withstood an early surge from the Trojans, who took five shots in the first quarter.
- Avery Congleton got Mount Olive on the board early in the second quarter off an assist from Nikki Bos.
- Brooke Ruiz took the first shot of the game for Belmont Abbey late in the second quarter.
- Belmont Abbey had five of its six shots in the fourth quarter with Jessica Rybicki and Analeigh Page taking shots on goal.
- Lainey Rogers had the other shot on goal late in the match for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey finished with two penalty corners on the afternoon.
- Mount Olive had nine shots compared to six for The Abbey.
- Chloe Parker made three saves and now has 235 for her Crusaders career. She needs four to tie and five to set the school record for most saves in school history.
