CLOVER, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey field hockey team continued its good run of play thanks to a 3-0 win over Coker Tuesday afternoon at Field Day Park.
Three different Crusaders accounted for the goals scored while
Chloe Parker and
Hailey Boda combined for a shutout.
The victory marked the third win in the last four games for the Crusaders, who improved to 4-7 overall and 4-5 in the South Atlantic Conference standings.
Coker is now 1-10 overall, 1-8 in the league following Tuesday's result.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders took an early 1-0 lead with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter with the third goal of the year from Lainey Rogers. Casey Etter was credited with the assist.
- Freshman Brooke Ruiz scored her first career goal with just over three minutes left in the first half to make it 2-0 Crusaders off a Cuinn Deely assist.
- The Abbey capped the scoring when Abigail Kane tallied her first goal of the season off a deflection early in the second half.
- Hailey Boda made her first Belmont Abbey appearance in the fourth quarter and made two saves in goal.
- The Crusaders outshot the Cobras 15-9 and 9-3 in shots on goal.
- Both teams took eight penalty corners in the contest.
- Emily Hughes and Grace Hudson made their first appearance of the season for the Crusaders.
