BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Belmont Abbey women's basketball extended its winning streak to 11 games with to a 76-50 victory over King Wednesday at the King University Student Complex Center.
The Crusaders put together one of its strongest offensive showings of the year by shooting a season-best 56 percent from the field en route to their second-highest point total of the season.
Fresh off a 30-point effort Monday against Chowan,
Abigail Crain led all scorers with 26 points to go with three rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Tornado.
Taylor Stelley reached double figures with 14 points that included four 3-pointers while
Riley James added 11 points off the bench.
Belmont Abbey moved to 13-3 overall and 10-0 in Conference Carolinas. King is now 4-14 overall, 4-6 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey took control of the game early thanks to a 9-2 run to close out the first quarter with an 18-10 advantage.
- The Crusaders shot 53.6 percent from the field in the first half and led by as many as 17 points after the first 20 minutes.
- Belmont Abbey did not miss a free throw for the second straight game, finishing 16 of 16 from the foul line.
- All eight players who saw game action scored for Belmont Abbey.
- The Crusaders forced 21 Tornado turnovers to help lead the defensive effort.
- The Abbey out-rebounded King, 34-18, in the game.
- Ricky Lesenyego led the Crusaders with a team-high eight rebounds and also added seven points off the bench.
- Belmont Abbey has held its opponents to 50 points or fewer in six of its 10 Conference Carolinas games. The Crusaders entered Wednesday's game with the fifth-best scoring defense in all of Division II allowing just 52.9 points per game.
