BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team put together its best offensive performance of the season en route to an 80-44 victory over North Greenville Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas matchup at the Wheeler Center.
Abigail Crain recorded her second double-double this week, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists and two blocked shots.
Taylor Stelley had one of her best games of the season as well, finishing with 18 points.
Catherine Hendershott also finished in double figures with 10 points.
The Abbey extended its winning streak to 12 games and moved to 14-3 overall, 11-0 in the league. North Greenville is now 4-12 overall, 4-6 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey started off the game on a 12-0 run and kept North Greenville scoreless for the first 6:37.
- NGU got within a point of the Belmont Abbey lead before the Crusaders ran off seven straight points to keep NGU at bay.
- The Abbey closed the first half on a 9-2 run that included a 3-pointer by Stelley in the final seconds.
- Belmont Abbey also extended its scoring run with a 25-6 run that overlapped between the third and fourth quarters.
- The Abbey kept up its consistent shooting from the free throw line by going 20-of-21 for the contest. The team led all of Division II in free throw shooting percentage entering Saturday.
- Belmont Abbey out-rebounded North Greenville 43-28.
- Peyton Nation added nine points and six rebounds off the bench.
- Riley James finished with a team-best five assists to go with six points and five rebounds.
- Belmont Abbey finished with just 10 turnovers which is the second-best total of the season.
- Maria Trettel scored the first points of her collegiate career with a layup at 1:23 left in the game.
