BELMONT, N.C. -- Mason Taylor hit a pair of free throws with 9.1 seconds remaining as part a team-high 17 points, leading Belmont Abbey to a thrilling 84-83 victory over Chowan in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Monday night.

All five starters reached double figures in scoring as The Abbey improved to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in league play. The Hawks fall to 8-7, 6-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Mario Lacy, Jr., amd KJ Garrett tallied 16 points apiece, while Wade Jackson chipped in 14 points. Charles Solomon rounded out the double-figure barrage with 10 points.
• Lacy added 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. He hit seven of nine from the field.
• The Abbey hit 51.6 percent from the field after intermission, after a 45.5 percent effort in the opening period. The final tally was 31-of-64 (48.4 percent).
• Belmont Abbey registered just eight turnovers, the sixth time this season it has been in single digits.
• Each team grabbed 37 rebounds.
• The contest featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes. The biggest lead for either team was six, 9-3 Belmont Abbey just five minutes in.
