BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey field hockey team made the most of its first game on campus of the season by coming away with a 2-0 victory over Coker in a South Atlantic Conference game Tuesday at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders took an early lead in the first quarter by
Sydney Rossacci while
Casey Etter added a goal early in the second half to give The Abbey the decisive margin.
Belmont Abbey improves to 3-4 overall, 2-1 in SAC play. Coker is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sydney Rossacci scored her first career goal with 7:45 left in first quarter to give Belmont Abbey an early 1-0 lead.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Coker 10-2 in the first half that included a 5-2 advantage with shots on goal.
- The Crusaders took all seven penalty corners in the first half.
- Caitlin Struckhoff recorded a defensive save in the first half..
- Casey Etter scored her second goal of the season in the first two minutes of the second half to extend The Abbey lead to 2-0.
- Etter led the team with four shots, three on goal.
- The Crusaders outshot the Cobras 12-6 for the contest.
- Hailey Leatherman saw her first action of the season in the fourth quarter.
- Chloe Parker finished the day with two saves and earned her 11th career shutout .
