DUE WEST, S.C – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team continued its run of good play by earning a 4-0 victory at Erskine Wednesday afternoon at Huggins Field. It is the third straight victory for the Crusaders.
Belmont Abbey scored once in the first half and three times over the final 45 minutes. It was the first time since 2018 that the Crusaders played a road game at Erskine.
The Crusaders held the Flying Fleet defensively without a shot.
Anna Schellpeper recorded a goal and an assist for the Crusaders while Kaitlyn Briones,
Reagan Cullen and
Logan Parry also added goals.
Paige D'Agostin also earned an assist during the win.
Belmont Abbey moves to 3-3-2 and 2-1-1 in Conference Carolinas. The Flying Fleet are 0-7-1 and 0-4-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders dominated possession and the scoring chances in the first half, taking nine shots in the first 45 minutes.
- Briones got The Abbey on the board in the 41st minute, heading the ball in off a pass from Schellpeper.
- The Crusaders scored two goals in quick order in the second half with Cullen's goal in the 57th minute followed by Schellpeper's goal in the 62nd minute.
- Parry scored for the third straight contest with her goal in the 88th minute off the D'Agostin. It is the fifth goal of the season for the junior from Greensboro.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 19 shots total and 12 shots on goal.
- The Crusaders also finished with 15 corner kicks, including 11 in the second half.
- It is the second straight season the Crusaders have defeated the Flying Fleet by a 4-0 total.
- Lauryn Harding got the start for The Abbey with Brianna Sroka closing out the final 20 minutes.
- Margaret Harris and Grace Siders made their first appearances of the season for the Crusaders.
