Abbey Hosts Lenoir-Rhyne in Non-Conference Match

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team took a brief break from Conference Carolinas play with a match against Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday evening at Alumni Field.
 
Nikolaus Opel made his first start of the season in goal for Belmont Abbey and made six saves on the evening.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 1-5-2 overall while Lenoir-Rhyne is 5-1-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Freshman Sebastian Rodriguez made his second career start  of the season for Saturday's match.
  • Davis McBee took the first shot of the game for the Crusaders midway through the first half.
  • Oliver Gardner scored the lone goal of the match for the Bears in the 58th minute.
  • Belmont Abbey finished the match with four shots and three shots on goal.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders play their next two matches on the road starting with Erskine on Sept. 21 and Converse on Sept. 24. Those matches are slated to start at 7 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
  • Belmont Abbey returns home for a Homecoming match October 1 against Francis Marion at 3 p.m.
