Crusaders Battle Shippensburg in Game Decided By Shootout

GAFFNEY, S.C. – A full 80 minutes was not enough to decide the matchup between the Belmont Abbey field hockey team and defending national champion Shippensburg Saturday at Saints Field.

The Crusaders were able to score first but it was the Raiders who earned the 2-1 win. The contest was the second time in as many seasons that Belmont Abbey had a game decided via shootout. The other occurrence took place Oct. 1, 2021 against Limestone.

Jessica Rybicki scored her second goal of the season with Abigail Kane earning the assist. Chloe Parker set a school-record for most saves in a single game with 16.

Belmont Abbey is now 2-3 on the season while Shippensburg is 5-0.
