BELMONT, N.C. -- Cameron Young tallied 11 kills and Caitlyn Faber added 27 assists, but Belmont Abbey opened its 2022 Conference Carolinas schedule with a close 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-23) setback against Barton Friday night.

With the result, the Crusaders fall to 2-12 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Bulldogs improve to 2-6, 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The six-point overall difference in scores is the closest possible in a three-set match.
• Jenna McCullough added eight kills with Mia Samaha chipping in seven.
• Samaha also made seven digs behind Zoe Schuberth's team-high 16.
• Ella Schellenberg added five assists.
• Baylea Botello and McCullough tallied two blocks each.
