CLOVER, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey field hockey team opened the 2022 season hosting Bloomsburg Thursday at Field Day Park in the head coaching debut of
Chelsea Herlocker.
In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, it was a pair of second-half goals that made the difference as Bloomsburg defeated the Crusaders 2-0.
Belmont Abbey is now 0-1 on the season while Bloomsburg is 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams played a scoreless first 30 minutes with the Crusaders taking three shots in the half.
- The Crusaders had 10 shots for the contest with seven coming on goal.
- Casey Etter led the Abbey with four shots for the game, three on goal.
- The Huskies scored first less than two minutes into the second half.
- Bloomsburg added a second goal with 12:44 remaining in the contest.
- Chloe Parker had two saves for Belmont Abbey.
- Eight Crusaders made their collegiate debuts in Thursday's opener.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey will play the first of three neutral-site games beginning Saturday against Mercyhurst at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saints Field at Limestone.
- The Crusaders will turn around and face Slippery Rock at 8 a.m. Sept. 5 back at Limestone. It will be the third straight matchup against PSAC schools to open the season.
