BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer played Caldwell to a 1-1 draw Saturday in the season opener for the Crusaders Saturday at Alumni Field. The match was highlighted by the first career goal of
Austin Bowling in the 35th minute.
Madison Gnolfo was credited the assist on the play.
The Abbey opens the season at 0-0-1 while the Cougars conclude its southeastern road trip with an 1-0-1 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders earned plenty of chances in the first 45 minutes of play Saturday, outshooting the Cougars 10-4 in the half.
- Belmont Abbey held advantages in both shots and shots on goal, earning 14 and 5, respectively, throughout the match.
- Caldwell evened the match up at 1-1 with a goal in the 57th minute.
- Freshmen Anna Richard, McKenna Schwarz, Anna Schellpeper, and Lydia Lewis all made their first career collegiate starts in Saturday's contest.
