JACKSON, Tenn. -- The 2022 Belmont Abbey women's volleyball campaign started Friday with the Crusaders dropping a pair of matches at the Union Volleyball Classic. During the afternoon session, Texas Woman's University earned a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-15) decision, while later in the evening, the host Bulldogs took a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-7) victory.
THE OPENER
- Freshman Ruby Foster led The Abbey with eight kills, while Mia Samaha added six. Both players hit over .300 in the match.
- Ella Schellenberg, starting for just the fourth time in her career, dished out 22 assists.
- Freshman Zoe Schuberth and Cameron Young each tallied six digs to anchor the defense. Samaha and Foster added five apiece
- The Crusaders hit .138 as a team, compared to .354 by TWU.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Samaha led the offensive attack with six kills, while Young added five.
- Schellenberg tallied 16 assists and a service ace, while also adding two digs.
- Schuberth topped double figures in digs with 12, while Young had eight, Caroline Dobson tallied four digs.
