MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team got off to another fast start by scoring the first four goals of the game to propel them to a 19-7 victory over Chowan Saturday in Conference Carolinas play.
Austin Hasen scored five goals for the third straight game to lead the Crusaders and also had two assists.
The Crusaders moved to 6-5 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Hawks are now 5-6 overall, 1-3 in the league following Saturday's contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hasen scored two of the first four goals of the game for the Abbey in the first five minutes. Bailey Williams and Noah Hass also scored goals during the early surge.
- Chowan would get a goal back in the quarter before Riley Arsenault and Erik Sahlgren scored to make it 6-1. The Crusaders led 6-2 after the opening quarter.
- Arsenault (2) and Sahlgren (1) accounted for the next three goals of the game for Belmont Abbey to make it 9-3.
- Williams closed the half strong for The Abbey by scoring two goals in the final 20 seconds to give Belmont Abbey an 11-5 halftime lead.
- Three alternating goals in the third quarter led to an increase in the Crusader lead.
- Erik Sahlgren would open the fourth quarter with his third goal of the game followed by goals from Hasen, Arsenault, and Hass.
- Matthew Wyatt scored the final goal of the game for the Crusaders.
- The Crusaders won 20 face-offs on the day and finished with 46 shots for the day, 32 on goal.
- Thomas Sullivan had 13 saves on the day for Belmont Abbey.
