Williams' Late Goal Lifts Crusaders to Sunday Final

WILSON, N.C. -- Bailey Williams scored the tie-breaking goal with six minutes remaining, helping top-seeded Belmont Abbey escape No. 4 Barton 8-7 Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championships.

Williams scored two goals in the contest as the Crusaders built leads of 5-0 at halftime and 7-1 in the third quarter before the Bulldogs rallied with six straight goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In addition to Williams, Erik Sahlgren and Noah Haas also tallied a pair of goals.
  • Riley Arsenault and Connor Toomey rounded out the scoring.
  • Six different players recorded assists, including Sahlgren and Williams, who finished the day with three points.
  • Toomey and Brady Smith picked up four ground balls. Smith won eight of 13 faceoffs.
  • Thomas Sullivan played 59 minutes in goal, making 16 saves against 11 goals. Ben Sabelhaus allowed one goal in a minute of action.
