WILSON, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey scored six unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters to extend a one-goal lead and secure its second straight Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Tournament Championship, 12-6 over Mount Olive on Sunday. The win marked the fourth tournament title overall for the top-seeded Crusaders (10-5).
Thomas Sullivan was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after making 14 saves in the championship game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four different players score a pair of goals -- Noah Haas, Noah Sexton, Erik Sahlgren and Matthew Wyatt.
- Sahlgren's goals came in a span of 1:56, turning a 6-5 advantage into a 9-5 game. Sexton tallied one of his goals in between.
- The six-goal surge concluded with a shot from Riley Arsenault to make the score 12-5 with 3:48 remaining.
- Belmont Abbey held advantages of 42-38 in shots and 25-20 in shots on goal.
- The Crusaders earned 38 ground balls to the Trojans' 25.
