Regular-Season Championship Highlights Senior Day

BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey celebrated 12 seniors before Saturday's matchup against North Greenville, then celebrated its first-ever outright regular-season Conference Carolinas championship afterwards. A 16-5 win over the visiting Crusaders capped an undefeated league season. A year ago, The Abbey shared the title, the first time it laid claim to the top spot.

Austin Hasen and Noah Haas scored five goals each and Thomas Sullivan made 15 saves to secure the win and a final regular-season record of 8-5, 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hasen added two assists for seven points, while Haas also tallied a helper.
  • Six other players had single goals, including Bailey Williams, whoe added four assists for five points.
  • Caleb Mulcahy led BAC with six ground balls, while Brad Mackie caused three turnovers.
  • Belmont Abbey won 18 of 25 faceoffs between Mulchahy (11 of 15) and Brady Smith (7 of 10).
  • Sullivan allowed just five goals over 57:28 before giving way to senior Ben Sabelhaus.
  • Belmont Abbey broke a 3-3 tie late in the second with seven straight goals. It trailed 2-1 after the first period before opening a 5-3 lead at intermission.
  • The hosts scored all four third-period goals and had an 11-2 advantage after the break.
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey takes the top seed into the Conference Carolinas Tournament next weekend in Wilson, N.C.
  • The Crusaders will play either No. 4 Barton or No 5 Chowan at 4 p.m. on Friday. Those teams face off on Tuesday in Wilson.
