BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey set a school record with 20.0 total blocks and
Matteo Miselli registered 22 kills, leading the sixth-seeded Crusaders to a 3-1 (25-13, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15) victory over No. 7 seed Lees-McRae Wednesday night in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Tournament.
With the victory, The Abbey (15-15) advances to face No. 3 seed Mount Olive on the road next Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miselli hit .486 overall (22k-5e-35a), while adding three service aces, three digs and six block assists.
- Kyle Ferguson dominated the middle with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage. He also totaled 8.0 blocks (two solo, 12 assists), just one shy of the school record.
- The block total bested 19.0 at King on January 18, 2014.
- Freshman Jack Walsh also had six blocks to go along with 35 assists. He added five digs.
- Daniel Cerqua led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
- Belmont Abbey hit .360 as a team, compared to .059 to the Bobcats.
