BELMONT, N.C. -
Austin Hasen scored five goals, but the Belmont Abbey Men's Lacrosse team lost a tough, 13-12 overtime game to Westminster (Utah). The Abbey is now 4-5 on the year, while Westminster improves to 5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hasen scored each of the first two goals of the game. Evan Farrage found the back of the net later in the period to put the Crusaders up 3-0 early
- Matthew Wyatt scored early in the second, before Hasen set up Noah Sexton for a score and a 5-1 Abbey lead
- Noah Haas scored the final Crusader goal of the period, and the teams were tied at six at halftime
- The Griffins scored three goals in the third, before Hasen scored two in a row to pull The Abbey to within a goal at 9-8
- Riley Arsenault capped off the period with a score, and the game was tied at nine heading into the fourth quarter
- Westminster scored two goals early in the fourth. Then the Crusaders scored three goals in less than three minutes, including a man-up goal by Haas
- With about a minute remaining, Westminster scored to force overtime, and scored with 1:18 left in OT for the win
- On the day, Hasen was the Crusaders' offensive leader, with five goals and two assists
- Brady Smith won 16 of his 23 faceoffs and picked up seven ground balls, tied for the game-high
- Thomas Sullivan made 14 saves in goal
- As a unit, the Crusaders outshot the Griffins 54-42
