BELMONT, N.C. - Erik Sahlgren scored four times to lead the Belmont Abbey Men's Lacrosse team past Catawba 14-6 this afternoon.  The Crusaders are now 1-4 on the season, while the Indians dip to 0-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The early part of the game was a defensive battle, with neither team giving up a goal in the first nine minutes of play
• Bailey Williams got the Crusaders on the board off a pass from Riley Arsenault.  Sahlgren found the back of the net in the final minute of the quarter to give The Abbey a 3-2 lead at the end of the period
• Williams was also the first to score in the second.  Later in the period, Noah Haas found the back of the net, while Sahlgren scored just seconds later to put BAC in front 7-3
• Neil Lingerman scored the final Crusader goals of the period, and the Crusaders held an 8-4 lead at halftime
• The third quarter was all Abbey.  Sahlgren scored twice in the first five minutes of the quarter.  Arsenault set up Hasen for a goal, then scored a goal of his own at the 1:40 mark for a 13-4 lead heading into the final quarter.  The defense was also strong, forcing five turnovers in the period
• Evan Farrage tallied the lone Crusader goal of the fourth.  The defense caused six turnovers, and The Abbey wrapped up the 14-6 win
• On the day, Sahlgren scored a career-high four goals to lead the Crusaders
• Brady Smith won 15 of his 18 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls
• As a unit, the Abbey defense caused 11 Indian turnovers.  Thomas Sullivan made 16 saves in goal.
