Crusaders Lead Tennessee River Rumble After Opening Day

LOUDON, TENN. – The Belmont Abbey men's golf team got off to a strong start with three players at even par or better to open play Monday at the Tennessee River Rumble hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.
 
There was a delayed start to open the tournament and all teams completed play with their opening rounds before play was suspended due to darkness.
 
When play concluded, the Crusaders were at 7-under par for the tournament and held a four-shot lead over North Georgia. The Crusaders were tied with the Nighthawks with identical scores of 3-under par 285 during the first 18 holes.
 
The Crusaders were led in the opening round by Jack Warren, Ben Loudermilk and Connor Fahey, who all shot 2-under par for their first 18 holes. Brendan Kelly, who is competing as an individual, also shot 2-under in the opening round.
 
When play was suspended, Warren had built off of his good start and was 4-under through 13 holes and 6-under par for the tournament, good for a tie for second place overall. Loudermilk was in a tie for fifth and 3-under par.
 
Andrew Rose was also 3-under par in his second round to pull back to even par for the tournament.
 
ST. ANDREWS INVITE
WAGRAM, N.C. -- The Belmont Abbey men's golf team also sent two teams to compete in the Deercroft Spring Break Invitational hosted by St. Andrews University. The C team is in 3rd place with an opening 310 while the D team is 10th with a 329.
 
The Crusaders were led by Sam Newton and Tyler Schaap, who opened with rounds of 74 and 75, respectively to sit in fourth place and in a tie for fifth.
 
UP NEXT
Play wraps up with the conclusion of the second round beginning at 9 a.m. followed immediately by the final round at WindRiver Golf Club. Belmont Abbey will have five holes to complete Tuesday.
 
The C and D teams conclude the Spring Break Invitational with the final round Tuesday.
