TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team took the field for the first game of a three-game Conference Carolinas series against North Greenville Friday at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The Crusaders were able to get on the scoreboard in the third inning but they fell 6-1 to North Greenville in the series opener.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 14-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play. North Greenville is now 17-4 and 8-2 in the conference.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Ben Ferguson was the first baserunner of the game for Belmont Abbey after reaching on a two-out walk in the top of the first inning.
• After falling behind 1-0, The Abbey pulled even in the third inning when Sean Johnson scored all the way from first base after a pair of North Greenville errors. Johnson reached base after being hit by a pitch.
• Ferguson reached base in the sixth inning with another two-out walk.  
• He also had the first hit of the contest for the Crusaders with a double down the right-field line in the eighth inning.
• Andrew Glauber and Evan Campbell both made appearances in relief for The Abbey.

 
UP NEXT

• The series is scheduled to continue with a doubleheader against North Greenville beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday back at Ray & Bea Dillard Field.
• The doubleheader was previously scheduled to start at noon but moved up an hour due to the possibility of inclement weather.
