TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Connor Tucker finished with five hits and drove in three runs as the Belmont Abbey baseball team earned a split of a doubleheader against North Greenville in Conference Carolinas play Saturday at Ray and Bea Dillard Field.
The Crusaders fell 8-1 in the first game and pulled out a 4-2 victory in the second game of the twin bill in the battle of the Crusaders.
Belmont Abbey moved to 15-8 overall and 7-4 in league play. North Greenville is now 18-5 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
GAME 1
- Kale Rhame got one of his two hits in the first game with a one-out single in the top of the first inning. He added a second single in the sixth inning.
- Ben Ferguson became the second base runner of the game when he drew a one-out walk in the fourth inning.
- The Abbey's lone run of the first game came in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI single from Connor Tucker to score Adam Overcash.
- Overcash got on base with a single and later reached third base on a wild pitch.
GAME 2
- The Abbey got the offense clicking with three runs in the top of the second inning.
- Zach Aehlert led the inning off with a single and added another base runner after Adam Overcash was hit by a pitch.
- Tucker drove both runners in during the next at-bat with a double to left-center field. He later scored off a fielding error by North Greenville to give Belmont Abbey a 3-0 lead.
- Tucker finished 4-for-4 in the second game of the doubleheader.
- Ben Ferguson finished with a pair of doubles in the second game Saturday, including one to lead off the third inning. He scored with an RBI single from Overcash.
- Sean Johnson's double in the fourth inning was one of four doubles in the nightcap.
- Brendan Simonds gave Belmont Abbey a solid start on the mound, allowing just two runs on eight hits and recording five strikeouts over seven innings.
- Avery Short earned his third save of the season by allowing just two hits over the final two scoreless innings.

- The Crusaders return to Abbey Yard to host Queens at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
- The Abbey resumes Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series at home against Barton starting at 5 p.m. March 18.
