ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Three Belmont Abbey wrestlers are set to compete at the Division II Wrestling Championships that begin Friday at the Chaifetz Arena.

In the 141-pound weight class, unseeded John Carayiannis will take on the No. 8 seed Keaten Schorr from Augustana (SD). Cariyiannis enters the bout at 12-6 overall and finished third at the Region II Super Regionals Feb. 26 at UNC Pembroke.

Mitch Dean is the No. 3 seed in the 165-pound weight class and will open the tournament against Ruben Garcia from Colorado State-Pueblo. Dean enters as the three-time Region II champion and finished sixth place during the 2021 National Championships and was named an All-American. He enters the championships with a 16-2 overall record.

In the 174-pound weight class, Connor Weeks will face the top seed Austin Eldridge from Nebraska-Kearney. Weeks was 9-6 and was the runner-up at the Super Regionals. The tournament is a single-elimination with the opportunity to wrestle back for third place.

The preliminary and first round bouts are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. followed by the second session at 5 p.m.The championship finals and the consolation bouts will take place Saturday.
