MARS HILL, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team went on the road for the first time this season to face Mars Hill Wednesday at Henderson Field.
The Crusaders had a strong performance offensively and reached double digits scoring for the third time in four games. The Lions, however, came away with a 16-11 victory.
The Abbey moved to 5-1 after its first loss of the season while Mars Hill is 2-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first two innings, the Crusaders broke through with a four-run third inning starting with a leadoff home run by Brennan Martin.
- Brady Emerson reached base with a walk, stole two bases and scored off a two-run double by Ben Ferguson. Ben Gobbel also scored on the play after he was walked earlier in the inning.
- The scoring was capped off with another RBI double from Zach Aehlert.
- Ferguson led the Crusaders offensively, finishing 3-for-4 and scoring two runs.
- Brady Emerson got The Abbey back on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
- Patrick Taylor also hit two doubles on the day and reached on a fielder's choice leading to a run in the seventh inning.
- Scotty Reeves also hit his first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the eighth inning.
- The Crusaders added three more runs in the ninth thanks to a Connor Tucker RBI single and a two-run single from Sean Johnson.

- Belmont Abbey continues its road trip with two games at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn. this weekend.
- The first game will feature the Crusaders against Rockhurst starting at 1 p.m. EST Friday followed by a matchup against the host Trojans at the same time Saturday.
