BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team erased a 10-point deficit down the closing stretch of the second half to earn a 99-94 victory over Francis Marion Tuesday in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders trailed 88-78 with 6:22 remaining in regulation and outscored the Patriots 21-6 to earn a comeback victory.
Bosko Bojovic finished with a team-high 20 points off the bench to lead The Abbey. It is the second time he has reached the 20-point mark.
Mario Lacy, Jr. added 17 points and nine rebounds and made all seven of his field goal attempts. Bojovic and Lacy were two of five Crusaders to finish in double figures scoring for the game.
The Crusaders moved to 18-9 overall and 16-7 in conference play. Francis Marion is now 12-13 overall and 10-13 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind 10-4 early, the Crusaders surged ahead with an 11-2 run to take a 15-12 lead with 15:27 left in the first half.
- Belmont Abbey's largest lead was six points in the first 20 minutes.
- Bojovic had 14 points in the first half as well for the Crusaders.
- Lacy Jr. made his presence felt early in the second half thanks to five dunks within the first 3:02 of the second half.
- Quest Aldridge reached double figures scoring with a 3-pointer with nine minutes left in the contest. He finished with 12 points.
- Sean Halloran's 3-pointer with 4:59 left put The Abbey within four points at 90-86. He finished with 12 points.
- Emmanuel Hernandez's jumper with 3:37 left in the game gave The Abbey the lead it would not relinquish.
- Sean Halloran scored two of his 14 points at the free throw line with less than a minute remaining.
- L.J. McCoy finished with three 3-pointers en route to his 12 points.
- The Crusaders finished with 23 assists for the game led by five each from Aldridge and Halloran.
