GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team went on the road and earned a third straight victory by defeating Limestone 8-4 in a nonconference game Tuesday.
It is the second time this season that the Crusaders have defeated the Saints this season after earning a 4-3 victory on Feb. 8.
Adam Overcash led The Abbey with three hits and drove in four runs while
Ben Gobbel recorded a pair of hits as well.
The Crusaders moved to 10-3 overall on the season while the Saints are 1-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey got off to a fast start thanks to a two-run double by Overcash in the top of the first inning.
- The Crusaders added three more runs in the third inning starting with an RBI single from Ben Ferguson. Ferguson also drew four walks on the evening.
- Gobbel also scored on a wild pitch later in the inning and Ferguson also scored on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Taylor to take a 5-0 lead.
- Limestone got back within 5-4 after seven innings but the Crusaders picked up a crucial run in the eighth inning when Ferguson scored on a fielder's choice.
- Overcash gave the Crusaders a pair of insurance runs with his two-run single in the top of the ninth inning.
- Seven pitchers combined to throw 12 strikeouts against the Saints.
- Avery Short was credited with the victory after throwing 1.1 innings and finishing with a pair of strikeouts.
- Jason White closed the game out with a perfect ninth inning.

Belmont Abbey resumes Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series at King starting Friday in Bristol, Tenn.
The first pitch of the opener Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday followed by a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
