BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team kept its strong run of play going against Chowan in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday evening at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders got off to a hot start offensively and never looked back for a 104-88 victory over the Hawks. It is the eighth time this season that The Abbey surpassed 100 points in a game this season.
Five players reached double figures scoring for the contest led by a game-high 19 from
Quest Aldridge.
Belmont Abbey moved to 17-9 overall and 15-7 in league play. Chowan is now 7-15, 7-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to an early 6-0 lead within the first 90 seconds of the game with baskets from Mario Lacy, Jr., Sean Halloran and Aldridge.
- Lacy finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Bosko Bojovic provided a spark of the bench in the first half for The Abbey and finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
- Chandler Baker was second on the team in scoring, finishing with 15 points and three 3-pointers.
- The Crusaders shot 68.8% from the floor in the first half.
- Belmont Abbey maintained its strong advantage in the second half by building a 29-point lead at 72-43 with 16:04 remaining in the game.
- Charles Solomon added 10 points and two blocks in the victory over the Crusaders.
- The Abbey held a 40-29 rebounding advantage over Chowan.
- The Crusaders also finished with 21 assists that included a game-high six from K.J. Garrett.
- LoLo Francis saw his first action of the season late in the contest.
- With the win, Belmont Abbey is virtually guaranteed a trip to Spartanburg as the No. 3 or 4 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
