NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team won its second straight game in the Music City with to a 7-3 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University Saturday.
Ben Gobbel led the way offensively for the Crusaders, going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in.
Jason White moved to 3-0 on the season after allowing just one run on four hits and recording five strikeouts.
The Crusaders are now 7-1 on the season while the Trojans moved to 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders got going on offense early with the first three batters reaching base.
- After drawing a leadoff walk, Sean Johnson came around to score in the top of the first inning after an RBI groundout by Adam Overcash.
- The Crusaders added a second run in the third inning when Gobbel scored on a double steal. He led off the inning by reaching first base on an error.
- Belmont Abbey entered the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead and created some separation with a four-run inning.
- Brady Emerson got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly before Gobbel hit a bases-clearing double to push the lead up to 6-1.
- Emerson capped the scoring with another sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
- Matty Bapst also had two hits on the day for The Abbey.
- Brendan Simonds struck out four in 2.2 innings of relief.
- Nic Aehlert and Avery Short recorded the final four outs of the game on the mound to close the game.

- The Crusaders return home for a game against Wingate at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Abbey Yard.
- Belmont Abbey opens Conference Carolinas play next weekend with a three-game series at Francis Marion at 4 p.m. Friday in Florence, S.C.
