BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team started off Conference Carolinas play on the right track with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-18, sweep over Barton Friday at the Wheeler Center.
Friday's match marked the beginning of a run of four home matches out of the next five.
The Crusaders moved to 8-2 overall, 1-0 in league play with the victory. Barton is now 0-4, 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After going back and forth to start the match, Belmont Abbey got on an eight-point unanswered run to take a 16-8 lead in the first set.
- Matteo Miselli had a pair of aces during that eight-point run.
- Miselli led the way with a match-high 11 kills to go with four digs and three aces.
- Andrew Kohut came through with two kills late as the Crusaders earned three of the final four points of the second set.
- Kohut finished with 10 kills to go with a pair of aces and six digs. The six digs matched Daniel Cerqua for the best mark on the team.
- The Crusaders took an early 9-4 advantage in the final set thanks to a 5-1 run that included kills from Kohut and Riley Mulkey.
- Mulkey finished with a team-high four block assists.
- Seven of the eight victories for Belmont Abbey have come via sweep.
- Jack Walsh finished with a match-best 33 assists for The Abbey.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders host Mount Olive in the first meeting since last season's Conference Carolinas championship match.
