BELMONT, N.C. – Jack Walsh finished with a match-best 44 assists as the Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team hosted Mount Olive Saturday night at the Wheeler Center. It was the first matchup between the two teams met in the Conference Carolinas championship match last season.
The Crusaders and Trojans battled to four sets before Mount Olive came away with the 25-18, 28-26, 25-19, 25-14, victory.
Andrew Kohut also was a top performer for The Abbey with a team-high 18 kills and nine digs.
Belmont Abbey is now 8-3 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Mount Olive moved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders and Trojans were locked in a close battle early with both teams even at 5-5 to begin the match.
- Trailing 17-11 in the first set, Belmont Abbey had a brief run of three straight kills: two from Kyle Ferguson and one from Kohut.
- Belmont Abbey was able to complete a comeback in the second set thanks to a run of five straight points after trailing 22-18.
- The run was capped off by a kill from Jake Somers to give The Abbey a 23-22 lead.
- Somers finished with eight kills and six digs for the match.
- Kohut and Matteo Miselli accounted for the final three points of the second set to take it 28-26.
- Miselli finished with 11 kills and an ace in Saturday's contest.
- Belmont Abbey had 10 block assists led by three from Kyle Ferguson.
