BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team used three goals in the second half to pull away for a 4-2 victory over Lees-McRae Saturday in a quarterfinal match of the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championships.
The fifth-seeded Crusaders will face top-seeded North Greenville at 11 a.m. Friday in the semifinals at Bryan Park in Greensboro.
Belmont Abbey moves to 10-7-2 on the season while Lees-McRae ends the season at 8-6-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lees-McRae got on the board first with a goal in the 34th minute.
- Goose Andrews got the equalize in the 40th minute with a header that found the right side of the net. Morgan Farrar was credited with the assist.
- Mia Muckenthaler scored her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute off a free kick to pull the Crusaders ahead 2-1.
- The Bobcats equalized in the 64th minute with a header of their own.
- Gabby Enciso put The Abbey ahead for good with a goal less than a minute later.
- The Crusaders capped the scoring with a long-range goal from Sabrina Cunha in the 68th minute. Farrar earned her second assist for the afternoon.
- The four goals in the second half were scored in 6:21 of game time.
- Brianna Sroka made her second start of the season in goal for The Abbey. She faced 14 shots on the afternoon.
- The Bobcats outshot the Crusaders 14-11. However, Belmont Abbey had seven shots on goal compared to three for Lees-McRae.
- Additionally, nine different Crusaders recorded a shot.
