BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team saw its season come to a close in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals Friday.
The No. 5 seed Crusaders faced off against top-seeded North Greenville and it was NGU who came away with the 3-1 victory at Macpherson Stadium at Bryan Park.
Belmont Abbey concludes the season with a 10-8-2 overall record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Goose Andrews took the first shot of the game for Belmont Abbey two minutes into the match.
- North Greenville got on the board in the eighth minute off an own goal.
- Belmont Abbey's first shot on goal came midway through the first half off the foot of Logan Parry.
- North Greenville added a second goal in the 26th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Abbey cut the deficit in half in the 36th minute with an Alyssa Espinosa goal. Anna Schellpeper was credited with the assist.
- North Greenville added a third goal in the 75th minute of the match.
- Belmont Abbey outshot North Greenville 16-15 with 11 shots coming in the final 45 minutes.
- Espinosa and Parry led Belmont Abbey with three shots each.
- North Greenville had a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
- Lauryn Harding finished with eight saves in the match.
ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS
Following the match,
Anna Richard,
Goose Andrews and
Lauryn Harding were presented with their plaques for earning spots on the all-conference team. Richard was a second-team selection while Andrews and Harding were named to the third team.
