Etter Sets New Program Best Scoring Record in Win Over LMU

BELMONT, N.C. – Casey Etter became Belmont Abbey's newest all-time scoring leadas the Belmont Abbey field hockey team defeated Lincoln Memorial 6-0 in a South Atlantic Conference game Saturday at Alumni Field.
 
The sophomore forward from Millville, New Jersey, scored a pair of goals in the first half to give her 15 career goals, surpassing the 14 goals previously held by Kayley Williams.
 
The Crusaders also finished with a season high in goals and also earned their third straight victory.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 6-5 overall, 5-2 in the SAC. Lincoln Memorial is now 1-10 overall and 0-8 in the league.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took just 2:03 for the Crusaders to get on the board thanks to Etter's first goal off an assist from Sarah Tobin.
  • The Crusaders added a second goal midway through the second quarter with a goal from Sydney Rossacci off an Etter assist.
  • The record-setting goal from Etter came on a penalty stroke with 8:11 remaining in the first half.
  • The next two goals for Belmont Abbey came just 13 seconds apart in the third quarter with goals from Abigail Kane and Meadoe Harrell-Alvarez.
  • Kaylee Wenzel capped off the scoring with her goal with 4:20 remaining in the contest.
  • The Crusaders finished with season highs in both shots (25) and shots on goal (13).
  • Belmont Abbey held the Railsplitters without a shot. It is the first time in program history that the team has not allowed a shot from an opponent.
  • The Cruasders scored six goals in a game for the first time since the 6-0 victory against Mount Olive on October 30, 2019.
  • Chloe Parker recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders head back on the road for the next two contests starting with a game at Mount Olive at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Belmont Abbey then will play at Coker at noon next Saturday.
