BELMONT, N. C. -- Belmont Abbey Women's Soccer celebrated five seniors Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan in the final regular-season home match.
Anna Richard scored twice as the Crusaders built a 3-0 lead by intermission and never looked back.
With the result, The Abbey improves to 8-6-2 overall and 7-3-1 in league play, clinching a home tournament match either next Wednesday or Saturday in the process. The Warriors fall to 3-11-1, 2-8-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Richard opened the scoring at 8:15, then added her second with .13:18 left in the opening half.
- In between, senior Gabby Enciso converted a penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.
- Goose Andrews and Anna Schellpeper found the net in the second half to cap the scoring.
- Belmont Abbey held an 18-7 shot advantage (11-3 on goal) and an 11-1 margin in corner kicks.
- The five goals were a season high.
- Five seniors were recognized in pregame ceremonies -- Andrews, Enciso, Paige D'Agostin, Peyton Cullen and Kaylani Miranda.
