Baylea Botello tallied a career high 16 kills and
Caitlyn Faber posted her fifth double-double of the season but Belmont Abbey fell just short of Mount Olive 3-2 (25-21, 25-14, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10) in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Monday night. The contest was originally scheduled for October 1 but postponed by Hurricane Ian and follows a Trojan sweep just four days ago.
With the result, Belmont Abbey falls to 5-21 overall, 3-9 in league play while UMO improves to 15-8, 8-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Botello hit .387 with just four errors in 31 attempts. Her previous high was 13 kills against Barton in 2021
- Jenna McCullough and Haley Davidson also reached double figures in kills with 14 and 11, respectively. McCullough had just four errors to hit .323
- Faber dished out 44 assists and had 15 digs in addition to two kills, a service ace and a block assist
- Zoe Schubert registered 18 digs to lead the defensive effort while Caroline Dobson added nine and Trinity Bradley eight
- The 53 kills ranked seventh-most this season
