BRISTOL, Tenn. – After a scoreless first half, the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned its second straight victory with a 2-0 win over King Saturday at Parks Field.
The victory clinches a spot in the Conference Carolinas tournament for Belmont Abbey with seeding still to be determined entering the final week of the regular season.
Belmont Abbey improves to 7-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in Conference Carolinas. King is now 1-10-4 overall, 1-6-4 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders came out aggressive with a pair of shots in the first 3:30 of the match.
- Belmont Abbey took seven shots in the first 45 minutes compared to three for King.
- The Abbey broke the deadlock in the 59th minute thanks to the second goal of the season by Anna Richard. McKenna Schwarz was credited with the assist.
- The Crusaders got a second goal past the Tornado thanks to a strike in the 80th minute by Anna Schellpeper. Reagan Cullen was credited with the assist on the goal.
- Logan Parry had five shots total to lead Belmont Abbey, three of them coming on goal.
- Belmont Abbey had twice as many shots as King, 18-9 and also held an 8-5 advantage in shots on target.
- Lauryn Harding made five saves and kept a clean sheet to record her the shutout.
