BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team faced off against Francis Marion in a crucial Conference Carolinas match Thursday at Alumni Field. The Crusaders and Patriots were scoreless in the first half before
Sabrina Cunha delivered a free kick goal in the 68th minute to give The Abbey a 1-0 lead. Belmont Abbey would go on to win by that 1-0 final score.
It was the second goal of the season for Cunha, both of which have come via free kicks. The Crusaders improve to 6-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference. Francis Marion is now 1-9-3 overall, 0-7-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders controlled the pace of play in the first half and outshot the Patriots 8-0 in the first 45 minutes.
- Logan Parry led the team with four shots, two of them on target.
- Lauryn Harding and Brianna Sroka kept a clean sheet for The Abbey with the two goalkeepers each playing a half. Sroka was credited with the win after playing the final 45 minutes.
- The Patriots managed just two shots for the match.
- Belmont Abbey also held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 14 shots for the match, three on target.
