GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey stands third in the NCAA Division II Super Regional II preseason rankings, released today by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Crusaders have wrestlers ranked in the top six in nine of the 10 weight classes for 63 total points.
Lander is listed first with 99 points, while Newberry is second with 83 points.
Individually,
Connor Weeks is listed as the region's top returner in the 174-pound weight class, while
John Carayiannis is second at 141. Both wrestlers return after competing at the Division II National Championships last season. Carayiannis earned All-American status last season after winning a pair of matches at the National Championships.
The Crusaders open the season Nov. 2 at home against St. Andrews.
