BELMONT, N.C. –
Brittany Autry scored 23 points to lead the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team past King 76-61 this afternoon. The Abbey now stands at 9-5 on the season, including a 7-3 conference record. King moves to 7-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trading baskets early, the Crusaders got ahead for good in the later part of the first quarter. Tied at 12, BAC went on an 11-3 run to pull ahead by eight. Sydni Clawges scored four points in the last 31 seconds of the period to give The Abbey a 27-16 lead when the quarter ended
- A 6-0 Abbey run midway through the second highlighted what was otherwise a very back and forth quarter, which ended with a 39-29 Abbey lead
- In the third, it was Autry scoring nine points, with Alexis Schulz adding five, to help the Crusaders build a 58-46 lead heading into the final period
- The early part of the fourth was back and forth, but the Crusaders went on a 9-2 run over the last four minutes of the quarter, including five from Keyanna Spivey. That helped Belmont Abbey seal the 76-61 victory
- On the day, Autry was the Crusaders' leader, with 23 points on 11-for-12 shooting. She also grabbed 16 rebounds, tying for her season-high
- Spivey added 12 points and eight rebounds
- As a unit, Belmont Abbey shot 54.4% from the field
