FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. –
Keyanna Spivey led a quartet of Belmont Abbey players to score in double figures, and the Crusaders defeated Emmanuel 72-59. The win puts The Abbey at 10-5 on the season, with an 8-3 Conference Carolinas record. Emmanuel is now 3-11 overall, and 3-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was a tight contest, with multiple ties, and ended with The Abbey on top 21-18
- Belmont Abbey went on a 12-2 run midway through the second to go up 33-22 and pull away for good. The Crusaders held a 33-29 lead at halftime
- Spivey scored the first eight Abbey points of the third. Alexis Schulz scored five late in the period, and the Crusaders led 52-45 heading into the final quarter
- Brittany Autry made a layup early in the fourth, and the Crusader lead never dropped below six the rest of the way. On the defensive side, BAC did not give up an Emmanuel field goal in the last three minutes of the contest, and the Crusaders wrapped up the 72-59 victory
- On the day, Spivey scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds
- Autry added 12 points and eight boards
- Taylor Stelley handed out a season-high seven assists
