BELMONT, N.C. –
Mario Lacy, Jr. scored 20 points to lead the Belmont Abbey men's basketball team past King 92-85 this afternoon. The Abbey now stands at 9-7 on the season, including a 7-5 conference record. King moves to 7-7 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The early part of the game was evenly matched, as neither team was able to build a lead bigger than four through the first 12 minutes
- Then an 8-0 Abbey run put the Crusaders in front 23-16. At halftime, Belmont Abbey led 37-30
- The opening minutes of the second half went much like the first, with the two teams trading baskets. Then a quick 6-0 run put BAC up 47-40
- King briefly held a lead midway through the half, but a 12-2 Abbey run put the Crusaders up 73-64 with six minutes to play
- In the closing minutes, Quest Aldridge scored nine straight Crusader points, helping BAC wrap up the 92-85 win
- On the day, Lacy Jr. was the Crusaders' leader, with20 points on 10-for-11 shooting. He also grabbed nine rebounds
- Aldridge contributed 16 points and seven boards
- As a unit, Belmont Abbey shot 52.2% from the field
