Snow, Autry Help Lift Crusaders Past Bobcats

BELMONT, N.C. -- The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team recorded its third straight Conference Carolinas victory with a 62-48 win over Lees-McRae Wednesday at the Wheeler Center.

Jo Snow led the way for the Crusaders with a season-high 23 points to go with three steals, two rebounds and a pair of assists. Brittany Autry recorded her second double-double in the last three contests, chipping in 19 points and 10 rebounds. Autry also had a pair of blocked shots.

The Crusaders moved to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference. Lees-McRae is now 2-9, 2-7, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Snow provided the early offensive spark for Belmont Abbey by making four of her first five shots in the first 10 minutes. The 12-point effort also included a 3-pointer made as time expired to end the quarter.
  • After facing an early deficit, the Crusaders put together a 13-3 run over the final 5:39 of the first half.
  • Autry's basket with 3:45 left in the second quarter tied the game at 22-22 and was followed by a 3-pointer by Taylor Stelley to give The Abbey the lead.
  • The Crusaders defense also stepped up by holding the Bobcats to just seven points in the second quarter.
  • The Abbey continued to take control of the contest by pushing the lead to as much as 15 points in the third quarter.
  • Snow and Autry helped seal the victory by accounting for the final eight points of the contest for the Crusadesrs. 
  • The Crusaders finished the game with 38 rebounds. After Autry, Keyanna Spivey added seven rebounds of her own.
  • Peyton Nation and Stelley had three assists each to lead The Abbey.

UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders close a three-game home stand against King at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wheeler Center.
  • It will be the second meeting of the season against the Tornado. The two teams last faced off Dec. 15 in Bristol, Tenn.
