BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team put together its highest scoring output of the season in a 115-89 victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas play Monday afternoon at the Wheeler Center. The Abbey also surpassed the century mark in points for the second straight contest while the 115 points is the sixth-highest single-game scoring total in program history
Seven Crusaders reached double figures scoring led by
Bosko Bojovic, who had one of the best games of his collegiate career. The junior recorded his first double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The 23 points is a career best while the 12 rebounds is a season high.
Chandler Baker followed that with 16 points to reach double figures for the third straight contest.
It is the third straight victory for the Crusaders, who move to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Erskine is now 2-13 overall, 1-9 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After battling back and forth in the first three minutes of the game, the Crusaders got going offensively with a Sean Halloran layup at 16:52 left in the first half. The basket marked the start of a 15-0 run over a three-minute span.
- Bojovic, Ryan Maslow and LJ McCoy all reached double figures scoring in the first half with 12, 11 and 10, respectively.
- The Crusaders book ended the strong start of the first half with a 9-1 run over the final 2:52 of the first half to take a 68-43 lead into the locker room.
- The 68 points also marks a season high scoring total over the first 20 minutes.
- Belmont Abbey made 66.7 percent of its first half shots and made eight 3-pointers in the half.
- Mario Lacy, Jr. was perfect from the field for the third straight game, accounting for 13 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
- LJ McCoy and KJ Garrett both had 10 points in the victory. Garrett also added a team-high six assists and four rebounds.
- The Crusaders led by as much as 30 points in the second half.
- Belmont Abbey finished with more than 20 assists for the third straight contest. The Crusaders finished with 23 against the Flying Fleet.
