BELMONT, N.C. --
Corrine Shovlain tallied a goal and an assist Tuesday afternoon, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 victory over King in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action at Alumni Field.
The victory -- the Crusaders' first of the year -- takes The Abbey's record to 1-3-1, 1-0-1, while the Tornado falls to 2-3-0, 1-2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game remaining scoreless until 2:58 left in the first half, when Goose Andrews struck a ball off the crossbar and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Shovlain had set up the goal with a through ball just outside left edge of the penalty area.
- Rebecca Morrison doubled the lead with an unassisted tally from the right side at the 57:57 mark of the contest, before Shovlain sealed the victory by breaking down the center with 11:22 remaining in the contest.
- Grace Siders assisted on the final goal.
- Lauryn Harding made four saves in recording her 13th career shutout.
- King outshot the Crusaders 11-9, although The Abbey had one more shot on goal (5-4).
