BELMONT, N.C. -- Senior
Brennan Davis posted a double-double of 44 assists and 11 digs and
Matteo Miselli led the offensive attack with 19 kills, lifting Belmont Abbey to a thrilling come-from-behind 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22) victory over North Greenville Tuesday night at the Wheeler Center.
With the win in the Conference Carolinas regular-season finale, The Abbey (13-7, 9-5) earn a double bye to the the conference tournament semifinals as the No. 2 seed. NGU (12-4, 7-4) falls to the No. 3 seed and will host a quarterfinal game next Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The home Crusaders fell behind 8-0 and 12-1 in dropping the opening set 25-19.
- But the team rallied with triplicate 25-22 scores in each of the next three sets.
- Davis now has five double-doubles this season. He was the team leader in both categories.
- Miselli's 19 kills came against eight errors in 32 chances (.344). He added six digs, three aces and two block assists.
- Andrew Kohut also reached double figures in kills with 11, while making six digs, three aces and four block assists.
- Senior Brian Long registered nine kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while chipping in an ace, five blocks and three digs.
- Belmont Abbey outhit North Greenville .250 to .211.
- Davis, Long and fellow senior William Morris were honored before the game in a pregame ceremony.
