Brady Smith went 10-13 on faceoffs, and the #13-ranked Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team earned a 20-2 victory at Lees-McRae this afternoon. THe wins puts the Crusaders at 6-2 on the year, with a 3-0 Conference Carolinas record. LMC dips to 0-8 on the year, with an 0-3 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bailey Williams scored the first goal of the game, and the Crusaders never looked back from there. Noah Haas scored a goal and assisted on another to put The Abbey up 3-0 when the first period expired
- Smith won each of the first four faceoffs in the second, the last of which resulted in a goal by Jack Pigott and a 7-0 Abbey lead. The success at faceoffs, combined with the strong defensive play, helped keep the Bobcats from taking a shot in the first eight minutes of the quarter
- Haas scored twice in the last three minutes of the quarter, and Belmont Abbey held a 10-1 lead at halftime
- Luke Spanier and Sean Hanrahan each scored in the opening two minutes of the third
- The defense continued to limit Lees-McRae's possessions and the Crusaders led 16-1 heading into the final period
- Fynn McNulty scored twice in the fourth to wrap up the 20-2 victory
- On the day, Smith's 10-for-13 performance on faceoffs helped limit Lees-McRae's possessions. As a unit, BAC was 18-for-26 on faceoffs
- Haas finished with five goals and three assists, for a total of eight points
- Thomas Sullivan made nine saves in goal. The Crusaders outshot the Bobcats 50-26
UP NEXT
Belmont Abbey will welcome Emmanuel to Alumni Field on Wednesday, March 31 for a 7 p.m. contest. The team will celebrate Senior Night that night.
