Field Hockey Opens Season with 3-0 Shutout

BELMONT, N.C. -- Julianna Smith registered her first career solo shutout and three different Crusaders found the cage, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 win in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey League action Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The contest was the season opener for both teams.

Sarah Tobin, Camrynn Aiello and Carolina Griffin provided the scoring for The Abbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the teams went to the break with a 1-0 score, the Crusaders stretched the margin with a pair of third-quarter goals.
  • Aiello doubled the lead 5:36 into the second half, while Griffin, a freshman, extended it to 3-0 just over three minutes before the end of the period.
